U.S Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seized a large number of narcotics last week concealed within a shipment of radishes

A 23-year-old man driving a tractor-trailer filled with radishes was stopped by CBP officers on Sunday at approximately 1:12 p.m. at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry. The driver was directed to an inspection, in which another officer referred the driver for further examination.

According to CBP, officers conducted a non-intrusive inspection of the tractor-trailer, and a human/narcotics dog screened the shipment and alerted officers to narcotics. CBP officials described the seizure as a “large amount”, but did not disclose the type of narcotic, the amount, or the street value it obtained.

The driver was described by CBP officials as a Mexican citizen and was detained for the alleged narcotic smuggling attempt.

The tractor, trailer, and narcotics were seized by CBP officials.
