Zaneta Encarnación, a candidate for mayor of Chula Vista, said she hopes to bring committed leadership to the local government based on her experience as an official and an organizer.
"My name is new on the ballots, but not in working with the community," Encarnación said.
Although she is the candidate with the most nominations among Democrat elected officials in the county, Encarnación, a former mayoral leadership executive in 2004, said her job is to "put aside ideologies and political affiliations, to work on what It's better for the community."
The candidate is currently the chief of staff at Southwestern College. In addition, she is the former Executive Director of the Rotary Club of Chula Vista and the former Executive Director of the Chula Vista Charitable Foundation.
Encarnación said in an interview that she told KUSI television that she hopes to bring her 20-year experience to the mayor's office, both as a public official and as a community organizer.
Zaneta Encarnación is one of six candidates for mayor of Chula Vista in the June 7 primary; the election is in November, and whoever wins the election will replace the outgoing mayor, Mary Casillas Salas December.
