A roundabout Chula Vista police pursuit resulted in a high-speed crash involving a compact SUV at the intersection where the chase began on Thursday, which hospitalized two people.
According to authorities, the 35-year-old man refused to yield for a traffic stop, and officers attempted to pull him over shortly after 10 a.m. near J Street and Third Avenue.
Lt. Gino Grippo said the motorist was a suspect in a reckless-driving incident reported about a quarter of an hour earlier. He fled for several minutes before doubling back to the road crossing where he initially had failed to yield.
At the intersection, his 2014 Ford Fiesta sedan collided with a Chevrolet Trax and skid into a halt, according to Grippo, leaving the intersection closed to eastbound and southbound traffic for about an hour.
The suspect was conscious and alert at the time of his arrest, and paramedics transported him to a hospital for a pre-booking precautionary medical screening.
According to Grippo, a man and his mother, who were in the compact SUV, were transported to an emergency room for evaluation of complaints of pain.
The suspect's name was not released.
