Lincoln High School students in San Diego will have the opportunity to explore alternative career paths this Thursday at a Career Exploration Day. Hosted by Workforce Connect in partnership with Junior Achievement of San Diego, Associated General Contractors Apprenticeship Training, and Lincoln High School, this event will showcase various well-paid career opportunities available in the construction industry.
Twenty students will have the chance to participate in hands-on workshops at the AGC Apprenticeship & Training center in Lakeside, CA. The workshops will include framing, drywall, painting, and heavy equipment operator training. The workshops are designed to provide students with a glimpse of the construction industry and the potential career paths available in this field.
This event is particularly relevant given the ongoing national discussion about the cost of college education and alternative pathways for those who do not pursue a traditional four-year college degree. By showcasing well-paid careers and on-the-job paid training opportunities in the construction industry, the Career Exploration Day aims to provide students with valuable information and experience that can inform their future career decisions.
The workshop stations will include a Carpenter – Wood Framing workshop, a Heavy Equipment Operator workshop featuring high-tech simulators, a Steel Stud and Drywall workshop, and a Painting workshop. Each workshop will run for 30 minutes, with small groups of students rotating through each station.
The event promises to be an excellent visual opportunity, as students engage in hands-on activities in a state-of-the-art training facility. The Career Exploration Day will take place on Thursday, May 18, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the AGC Apprenticeship & Training center in Lakeside, CA.
