Monday, May 29 celebrates the commemoration of Memorial Day, a day where we try to honor and respect those who gave their lives to ensure our freedom.
In appreciation for this day, the City of Chula Vista has sent a news release revealing what places will remain closed on May 29, in observance of Memorial Day.
The news release states that City offices and facilities will be closed for the entirety of that day. Also, trash removal will be delayed by one day, in other words, if you usually get your trash collected on Mondays it will be delayed till Tuesday, and so on for the rest of the week.
“Public safety will not be affected by the holiday schedule,” they said. Police and firefighters will provide regular daily 24-hour services. Public Work Department services will only benavailable for emergency-only.
“The Household Hazardous Waste facility will operate normally and will be open on Saturday, May 27, and Wednesday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.” said the release.
The City also welcomes everyone to celebrate this day in one of the many spots in Chula Vista that honor its veterans.
You can go visit the beautiful Memorial Park monument, which has the names of Chula Vista residents who have died in the war, at 373 Park Way. You can also visit Veterans Park, at 785 East Palomar Street, where you can find an eminent brick “Walk of Honor” that includes the names of fallen veterans.
Moreover, the City encourages residents of Chula Vista to remember the importance that veterans have made in our lives if we pass any of the over 92 streets in the Sunbow and Otay Ranch communities that are named in honor of these veterans.
Other things we as a community can do to salute the veterans are, to donate to related causes and/or associations, shop at a veteran-owned business, and listen to veterans' stories.
