CBP apprehended 290 people in less than 13 hours

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents recently encountered 290 individuals illegally crossing into the United States from over 30 different countries, all within less than 13 hours.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents recently encountered 290 individuals illegally crossing into the United States from over 30 different countries, all within less than 13 hours. 

CBP agents assigned to the San Diego Sector Imperial Beach Station encountered the first large group on Friday at approximately 7 p.m. consisting of approximately 90 individuals illegally entering through an area known as Goat Canyon. According to the agency, the area is located about four miles west of the San Ysidro Port of Entry. 

Another group of 56 individuals crossed through an area known as South Levee, located approximately one mile west of the San Ysidro Port of Entry as agents secured the first group. 

A third group of 114 individuals was later apprehended near South Levee. As CBP agents secured the third group, an additional 30 individuals illegally crossed through Goat Canyon. 

According to CBP officials, the apprehended individuals came from Afghanistan, Angola, Belize, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Colombia, Congo, Costa Rica, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Ecuador, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, India, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Mali, Mauritania, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Romania, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Turkey, Vietnam, and Yemen. 


The agency said it took the apprehended individuals into custody, evaluated, and transported them to the Imperial Beach Border Patrol Station.
