The Chula Vista Police Department partnered with Tacos El Gordo to promote positive law enforcement-community partnerships in honor of the National Night Out.
The event will take place this year on Aug. 2 from 4 to 8 p.m.at the Chula Vista Police Department headquarters on 315 4th Avenue, to cultivate neighborhood camaraderie to cultivate a safer and more caring community. Tacos El Gordo will provide free tacos to those in attendance on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Community members can see K-9 and Jaws of Life demonstrations and meet officers, including the S.W.A.T and Mobile Field Force, along with activities for kids.
According to the nonprofit organization the event is named after, National Night Out is celebrated on the first Tuesday in August by millions of neighbors in thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories, and military bases worldwide. Participating neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts, and various other community events.
National Night Out was introduced in August of 1984 through an already-established network of law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, civic groups, state and regional crime prevention associations, and volunteers across the nation.
