A 41-year-old man crashed into a school bus Wednesday afternoon to flee Chula Vista Police carrying a loaded gun.
Just after 3:20 p.m., police pulled over a vehicle on Hilltop Drive for a suspected traffic violation, according to CVPD Lt. Scott Adkins. The driver took off during the stop, driving south at high speeds.
According to Adkins, the driver turned left onto Main Street and sideswiped a car, leading to the collision with the school bus that was stopped for a red light. The driver attempted to flee on foot with the fully-loaded weapon after the collision but was tackled by police.
Police reported Thursday that there were no students on the bus and nobody was injured.
The man was arrested on suspicion of several felonies and misdemeanors, including being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of controlled substances.
