Driver of DUI crash that killed teenager, stepfather in National City identified

Two victims were fatally stuck by motorists under the influence in National City.

A teenage girl and her stepfather were killed Wednesday by a driver suspected of being under the influence were identified. 

Tayishe Ann Baltys, 43, was heading west in the 3100 block of East Plaza Boulevard in National City shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday when her 2020 Toyota Prius struck the victims.
 
Kristin White, the grieving mother of 15-year-old Jessica Talamante, told a local media outlet that she was still in shock and distraught over the loss of her daughter and 39-year-old boyfriend Brian McKee. Police Talamante and McKee were returning home from a visit to a neighborhood market. 

The girl died at the scene, Sgt. Kenneth Springer said. Paramedics took her stepfather to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

Baltys was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter. She was booked into Las Colinas women's jail in Santee, where she was being held on $500,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Friday afternoon.
