As temperatures drop and rain moves into the forecast, the San Diego Housing Commission, in coordination with the City of San Diego, has activated the Inclement Weather Shelter Program to provide emergency beds for people experiencing homelessness.

The activation is part of a seasonal program that generally operates from November through March when specific weather thresholds are met. According to officials, the program is triggered when temperatures are 50 degrees Fahrenheit or below with at least a 40% chance of rain; when temperatures fall to 45 degrees Fahrenheit or below regardless of rain; or during exceptional weather events, such as one inch or more of المطر within 24 hours and sustained high winds.

In a statement, the Housing Commission said the program is a partnership with Father Joe’s Villages and Living Water Church of the Nazarene to expand shelter capacity during severe weather conditions.

Individuals seeking shelter may go directly to participating locations to request a bed. All beds opened under the inclement weather program are available on a nightly basis and are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Check-in and check-out times vary by site, but most locations open in the late afternoon and require guests to vacate early the following morning.
