CHULA VISTA—Four years ago, in 2020, a national organization partnered with the Office of Community-Oriented Policing Services of the U.S. Department of Justice.
The purpose was to hold the first-ever National Faith & Blue Weekend. Since then, this national event has taken place in most U.S. states every October.

A spokesperson from Chula Vista Clergy Alliance reminded that this is the third year the event is celebrated in Chula Vista because “nationally, we recognize Faith and Blue Day, where we, as believers, honor the police officers because they are at the forefront, and there are Christians, men, and women, serving in their communities.”
“And we, as pastors in the community,” the spokesperson continued, “are backing them. We believe in God’s faith in their lives. And we are working together, in harmony, to lift the city of Chula Vista.”
“Giving them encouragement, blessing, and protection.”
“Each city has its responsibility. For us pastors,” he said, “our role is to come alongside the police officers and give them encouragement, blessings, protection, and the covering of God, who does great things for the city of Chula Vista.”
“That’s why the Chief is happy,” he added, referring to Roxana Kennedy, who participated in the event along with the Mayor of Chula Vista, John McCann, “because we are with them, praying for them. Faith in Blue is essential to them.”

But what is the reason for this celebration, we insisted?
“The reason for this national event,” the interviewee replied, “is that the world recognizes Blue Day, and we honor the police officers because they are at the forefront, and there are Christians, men, and women serving in their communities.”
Victory Outreach San Ysidro and New Beginnings of Otay were among other religious organizations present at the National Faith & Blue Weekend event.
