CHULA VISTA — The Chula Vista Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to midnight at an undisclosed location within city limits, the agency announced this week.

Checkpoint locations are selected based on historical data involving DUI-related crashes and arrests. Officials say the primary goal of the operation is to enhance public safety by identifying and removing impaired drivers from the road.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” said Agent Brian Carter. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”

Authorities are also reminding the public that impairment isn’t limited to alcohol. Prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and marijuana—despite its legal status for medicinal and recreational use—can all impair driving and result in DUI charges.

Motorists found to be driving under the influence could face severe legal and financial consequences. A first-time DUI offense can cost an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and may result in a suspended driver’s license.

The upcoming checkpoint is part of a broader safety initiative funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, administered through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
