Starting this academic year, the Sweetwater Union High School District is offering free after-school tutoring services at all middle and high schools. The program aims to help students recover from learning gaps caused by the pandemic while improving graduation rates.

Tutoring will be available in math, science, English, and college prep, with bilingual support for Spanish-speaking families. Sessions will run Monday through Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Superintendent Moisés Aguirre emphasized the importance of equity in education. “Every student deserves access to the support they need to succeed. By offering free tutoring, we are ensuring that cost is never a barrier to learning,” he said.

Federal COVID-19 relief dollars fund the program and will be evaluated after its first year. Parents can sign up their children through the district’s online portal or by contacting their school office.

Community leaders praised the initiative, saying it will provide a much-needed boost for working families across the South Bay.
