Common Theory Public House holds a grand opening to celebrate the launch of a new local addition to the Chula Vista community.

On Tuesday, March 19, Co-Founders Joon Lee and Cris Liang celebrated the fulfillment of their dream of expanding their already successful business and taking it to its roots: the City of Chula Vista.

With Chula Vista Mayor John McCann in attendance, Common Theory Co-founders cut the ribbon to make the opening official for this brand-new location in the Otay Ranch area, found in the Millenia community.

The first and original location is based on Convoy in San Diego, and it’s now opening its doors to Chula Vista residents and the South Bay community in general. The restaurant is an Asian-influenced gastropub influenced by Mexican cuisine and Korean.

Co-founder Cris Liang, a lifelong resident of Chula Vista, says it’s a heartwarming experience to see this community grow and improve.

“It’s a comeback home type of story,” Liang says. “Two years ago, we swung by this community and saw how much it’s grown, and we thought that it was time to bring this type of place to this Otary Ranch area, and that’s when we thought of making Common Theory 2 happen.”

“My parents migrated from China to Mexico, and I was born in Rosarito and grew up in Tijuana,” said Liang. “We eventually moved to Chula Vista, so now I carry that inspiration and heritage over to this to create our menu.”

As for locals who have yet to visit Common Theory, the co-founder says that this isn’t just any other restaurant but also a location that will make visitors feel like they are in a welcoming environment in the heart of the Millenia community.

“The experience is key for us, and we want to make you feel at home,” Liang added. “Our goal is to run a neighborhood-friendly bar where you can have a great time and enjoy delicious food and a great craft beer selection.”

Chula Vista Mayor John McCann believes that this restaurant expansion indicates the economic progress this city has made over the past decades.

“Chula Vista is the economic driver for the next decade, which we’ve planned since the 1990s,” said the Mayor. “This is a great expansion of our businesses. This will be an exceptional restaurant that people can walk to in the heart of Millenia.”

This new Common Theory Public House is located at 1980 Optima Street in the Millenia community, adjacent to the local Otay Ranch Town Center.

The 4,500-square-foot restaurant offers an open area with a bar, tall tables, table booths, and more. Common Theory also has monitors for sporting and other televised events.
