CVPD arrested a suspect involved in a fatal shooting that took place over the weekend on Center Street and Third Street.
According to officials, Chula Vista Police were notified at approximately 11:17 pm on Saturday about a man who had been shot.
Chula Vista Police say that a physical altercation had occurred before the eventual fatal shooting.
The first responders to the scene discovered the local 36-year-old victim with multiple wounds in his upper body area. The 36-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Authorities reportedly learned from witnesses that the suspects took off riding an older model white pickup truck, which was later spotted on H. Street. The car was stopped, and officials detained two individuals who occupied the white truck.
One of the two individuals inside the vehicle is 32-year-old Christian Benavides, according to Chula Vista Police Department. The suspect was taken to San Diego County Jail on criminal charges, including murder.
Police are still investigating the shooting and are continuing to gather evidence.
