Celebrando Latinas is thrilled to announce that Jacqueline Nava Mouett, a renowned boxing champion and inspirational leader, will be the keynote speaker for its 12th edition, to be held on September 14, 2024, at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront.
This annual event, led by Fanny Miller, president of El Latino San Diego, celebrates the
impact and achievements of Latina women in various spheres of society.
Jackie Nava, born in Tijuana, Baja California, has been an iconic figure since her early days in sports. She demonstrated her determination and skill from a young age in disciplines such as gymnastics and athletics before excelling in Limalama and Kick Boxing, where she garnered multiple accolades before transitioning to professional boxing. Graduating in Architecture from the Tijuana Institute of Technology with the highest GPA in her class, “La Princesa Azteca” has successfully combined her academic career with an impressive sports trajectory.
In May 2001, at the age of 21, she made history by debuting as a professional boxer in Oahu, Hawaii, winning a unanimous decision over Vicky Cozzy. Jackie Nava has won multiple world championships throughout her career, including the National Super Bantamweight Title in 2004 and the WBA Bantamweight World Championship in 2005, becoming the first woman from Tijuana to achieve these honors.
Her dedication to the sport and her community extended beyond the ring. In 2015, she was elected Federal Deputy for the PAN, standing out as an advocate for physical culture and sports in Mexico.
Retired from boxing in October 2023, with an impressive record of 40 wins, 16 by knockout, 4 losses, and 4 draws, Jackie Nava continues to make a positive impact through her gym, “Jackie Nava Gym” in Tijuana, where she supports young talents academically and athletically. Jackie Nava shares her experiences and knowledge through conferences and talks, inspiring children and youth to achieve their goals with determination and discipline.
