The Chula Vista Police Department received a 9-1-1 call just before 11 a.m. regarding a student suspected of having a firearm. The incident was immediately relayed via the Live911 platform, enabling the department’s Drone as First Responder (DFR) pilot to deploy a drone to the scene.

A nearby School Resource Officer (SRO) quickly responded, arriving on campus before the call was fully dispatched. The officer located the student in the school’s administrative office, where the student was attending an appointment. The officer conducted a search and discovered the firearm. The student cooperated with the officer and was taken into custody without incident before being booked into Juvenile Hall.

Preliminary investigations revealed that other students had alerted school staff about the possibility of the student possessing a weapon. At this time, there is no evidence that the student made threats or brandished the firearm.

Chula Vista Police and school resource officers are continuing to investigate the incident. Due to the student’s age, no further identifying information is being released.
