CHULA VISTA — Downtown Chula Vista is set to welcome back its popular outdoor film series, Movies at Memorial, offering families and movie lovers a chance to enjoy summer evenings under the stars. The free screenings will take place every other Saturday from June 14 through August 9 at Memorial Park.

The event, designed for all ages, will feature a selection of classic favorites and culturally rich films. Screenings begin at dusk, around 7:30 p.m., and end by 9:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and warm layers for a comfortable viewing experience.

The 2025 lineup includes:

— June 14: The Goonies. This 1980s adventure classic follows a group of kids who discover a mysterious treasure map and set off on a thrilling journey to save their homes. With hidden traps, pirate legends, and enduring friendship, the film remains a nostalgic favorite for generations.

— June 28: The Secret Life of Pets. This animated comedy imagines the wild and whimsical lives of pets when their owners aren’t home. With colorful characters and plenty of laughs, it’s a crowd-pleaser for kids and animal lovers alike.

— July 12: Selena. The beloved biopic tells the inspiring story of Selena Quintanilla, the Tejano music icon whose voice and legacy continue to resonate. Featuring a breakout performance by Jennifer Lopez, the film is a heartfelt tribute to a star whose life ended far too soon.

— July 26: Nacho Libre. Loosely based on a true story, this offbeat comedy stars Jack Black as a monastery cook who secretly moonlights as a luchador to support orphans. With its quirky humor and heart, the film has earned cult status.

— August 9: Encanto. Disney’s magical tale follows the extraordinary Madrigal family in Colombia, each member blessed with a special gift—except for Mirabel. With vibrant animation and original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the film explores themes of identity, family, and belonging.

Memorial Park, located at 373 Park Way, provides the backdrop for these relaxed community gatherings. Guests are encouraged to explore the charm of Downtown Chula Vista before the show—grabbing dinner, dessert, or snacks from local eateries to enjoy picnic-style at the park.

Admission is free and seating is first come, first served. With a mix of animation, comedy, and music, Movies at Memorial promises an inclusive and memorable summer for all.
