An investigation is underway after a man suspected of robbing a liquor store in Logan Heights was shot to death by San Diego police.

At approximately 7:30 a.m. Monday morning, an unidentified man walked into Mullens Market on Imperial Avenue at 30th street carrying a knife and proceeded to rob the liquor store. The robber reportedly vanished with an unconfirmed amount of money in possession.

SDPD Captain Rich Freedman said that police caught up to the man in an alley near 32nd street shortly after the robbery took place. The Captain said

"They confronted the male. The male produced a handgun, prompting three officers to fire their weapon, striking the male," Freedman said.

According to officials, the robbery suspect was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot by officials. The robber's name, at the moment, is yet to be identified by officials. However, it is believed that the suspect was a Hispanic male between the age of 20 to 30 years old.

Homicide detectives are currently investigating whether or not the suspect had returned gunfire with police before his death.

SDPD says that none of the 3 officers involved in the shooting were injured during the incident, but they have been placed on administrative leave as this investigation unravels.

The officers' body cameras were reportedly activated throughout the incident this morning, and detectives are also looking into surveillance footage inside Mullens Market for additional evidence on the investigation.

San Diego Police Department's homicide squad is currently at the helm of the investigation, along with FBI officials monitoring the investigation. Information gathered on the incident will then be sent to the county's District Attorney's office, as stated by SDPD.

In the meantime, police currently have closed several streets near the area where the incident took place, as officials continue to investigate the incident on Imperial Avenue.

More details on this developing story will be presented as it unfolds.
