The Chula Vista Police Department (CVPD) is offering a free catalytic converter engraving event to help vehicle owners protect against theft. Catalytic converter theft has risen over 300% nationwide, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB).

The Public Works Automotive Department will engrave the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on catalytic converters for the first 250 registered passenger vehicles on January 31, 2026, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the City of Chula Vista Public Works Center.

To participate, vehicles must be currently registered (proof required), and only passenger vehicles are eligible. The event is sponsored by the City of Chula Vista.
