Mexican boxer Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez spoke to the media this week as he prepares to fight former WBA Interim Light Heavyweight World Champion, Dominic Boesel on May 14.
The press conference was held in Los Angeles on Monday, April 25, ahead of the upcoming fight between the Mazatlan-made boxer and the German fighter at the Toyota Arena next month.
Zurdo says that he's looking forward to the fight, in which he expects the majority of those in attendance to be Mexicans, or Latinos from all cultures. The Mazatlan warrior says that, after this fight, he would like to box against the winner between the Canelo and Bivol main event in May.
"I always want to put on a good show for the fans. There will be a lot of Mexican people, a lot of Latinos, a lot of boxing fans. I want to make a statement and get the winner from Canelo vs. Bivol, that's the fight that I want and I need to pass through this guy first on May 14." Ramirez said.
The Mexican fighter says he is feeling good as he prepares for this fight, and he's already predicting his boxing record will continue to remain unblemished after this fight.
"I am really confident in my self and in my training. I knew the fight was going to be in May, but not the date, but I like to be in shape. I am always training and am ready for these big opportunities. On May 14, I will be 44-0, 30KOs no losses. I am looking for the knockout." Ramirez added.
And as for his corner, Ramirez also expressed his appreciation for the Golden Boy family, for making him welcomed in and out of the boxing ring.
"Its a pleasure to work toe-to-toe with a living legend and the Golden Boy family has welcomed me with open arms, and I am very grateful for that. We have a great relationship in boxing but also outside the ring, they have treated me like family." Zurdo said on Golden Boy promotions.
Oscar De La Hoya was also in attendance in Monday's press conference, where he talked about Zurdo's boxing abilities in the ring, in particular his vision and determination to become champion of this sport.
"[Zurdo] is 43-0 and he has the vision, the drive to become a world champion. He was Mexico's first super middleweight champion, that is something we should never forget. To be 50-0 that is a goal that he has, it's exciting to see him fight. May 14 will be another difficult fight for him, but that is what he is all about." De La Hoya said.
The Golden Boy CEO and boxing legend also said that Zurdo could very well face the golden opportunity to box the winner of Canelo and Bivol in the future, which is an opportunity he belives Ramirez has earned through his consistency and professionalism.
"He's in great shape, he is always training, he is professional, and he wants to give everyone a good show. And the great thing is that he is going to be in a good position to fight the winner for Canelo vs. Bivol. So it took a while, but he worked hard and never gave up and the opportunity is right around the corner." he added.
