The city of Chula Vista and Republic Services come to an agreement to begin a reimbursement process.

This agreement was confirmed Tuesday night, addressing the recent 30-day strike that took place early in the year which resulted in piles of trash all over the city of Chula Vista.

Republic Service employees went on strike for those 30 days due to delayed work contracts, which impacted local customers who had to look elsewhere for other ways to dispose their waste.

Councilmember John McCann spoke to local CBS on Tuesday night, highlighting the reimbursement to the city for its efforts to keep the area clean during the strike early this year.

“Now we get a final agreement that reimburses the city for its efforts in picking up trash and hiring outside vendors to pick up the trash during the strike," said the Councilmember.

The Councilmember was also asked if the city would receive a full refund in this reimbursement, to which he responded with the following:

"The credit Republic Services gave our customers was considered the trash pick-up but the actual landfill cost of putting the trash in the landfill was not covered, and that would be a separate entity. Therefore, we were able to get them fully reimbursed for the trash pick-up, but not for the trash dumping,” McCann added.

Another Councilmember that did not support this agreement is Jill Galvez, who additionally released a statement on this deal by stating that there should have been full bill credits for city customers earlier in the year.

Councilmember Jill Galvez said the following in a written statement:

"I firmly voiced my belief that there should have been full 100% bill credits for all customers during council deliberations in February, rather than rubber stamping republic’s initial offer. I voted against this finalized settlement in early March and remain very disappointed with my colleagues."
