Chula Vista hosted the city's inaugural block party this weekend.

On Saturday, Third Avenue was packed with hundreds of locals of all ages during the city's first ever block party to officially launch the summer.

They had everything that very-well represents this city. Local food vendors, local hand-made crafts, live music by local artists, including mariachis. The whole celebration screamed Chula Vista from beginning to end.

The Padres also had a booth where they were selling the Nike City Connect jersey at the block party, drawing hundreds of people in line to get their hands on the special jersey that the team revealed last week. Towards the end of the night, baseball fans were able to walk over to the big screen to watch the Padres game against the San Francisco Giants. And to top it off, The Padres won Friday night as they played with this new jersey for the very first time.

One of those locals who attended and enjoyed the block party was Susy Yepez, a local San Diego native who was raised in Chula Vista. This event was special for someone like her who has seen the evolution of this city transform the way it has over the years.

Susy told ChulaVistaToday that the ambience was just what the city needed after the last few years it has gone through involving the global pandemic.

"It felt like Familia vibes! The community came together for a “watch party” but it felt more like a community attempting to reconnect after covid-close downs," said the Southbay native. "What once was a closed street, suddenly became arms wide open. The Hispanic culture was evident all around, from low-riders to street vendors. It felt peaceful with the cops around. It made the atmosphere feel safe with children and families of all ages walking through Third Avenue. From young to the elders, they were there for two reason – to make memories and watch the San Diego Padres play," she added.
