East Chula Vista has a new Korean BBQ establishment for South Bay locals for an All-You-Can-Eat visit.

Chula Vista residents no longer have to drive up north to Convoy District for delicious Korean BBQ now that Sura has opened its doors in the Otay Ranch area at 1960 Optima Street.

Sura Korean BBQ has been launched by the team behind Common Theory Public House, Joon Lee and Cris Liang, in collaboration with their business partner Andy Ahn.

“Our goal is to bring high quality Korean barbecue to the South Bay and minimize travel to the Convoy District,” Lee said. “Our hybrid system makes us unique with meat brought to your table, meat on the buffet line, and all the other great hot and cold options. We feel there’s something for everyone, and who doesn’t love ice cream?”

The options in Sura’s menu include Top Blade, Brisket, Beef Belly, Thin Sliced Pork Belly, Beef Tongue, Ribeye, Rib Finger, Jumuluk, Octopus, Shrimp, Short Rib, Prime Jumuluk, Prime New York Steak, and more.

“It’s time to feast on meat in the South Bay,” Liang said. “It’s going to be a fun atmosphere watching our guests eat to their heart’s content as Sura will provide another option for those in East Chula Vista who want to save a little at the gas pump instead of making the roughly 50-mile round trip to the Convoy District.”

Joon Lee has Korean roots and is an alumnus of Eastlake High School. He has seen the transformation of this part of Chula Vista throughout his adult life, and in less than a year, he and Cris Liang(Bonita High School alumnus) have opened two businesses in East Chula Vista.
