CHULA VISTA.– Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group opened its new medical center to the public on January 26, located at 480 H Street in Chula Vista. The facility spans approximately 75,000 square feet and was designed to centralize and expand primary and specialty medical care services in a single location.

The new medical center replaces two existing facilities — Sharp Rees-Stealy Chula Vista and Sharp Rees-Stealy Chula Vista Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy — previously located on Third Avenue and F Street, with the goal of improving continuity of care and accessibility for patients.

According to information provided by the organization, the center offers primary and specialty care, pediatric services, urgent care, physical therapy, advanced imaging, an on-site pharmacy and clinical laboratory services.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony held on January 23, health system leaders and local officials highlighted the opening as part of the expansion of medical infrastructure in the southern region of the county.

County Supervisor Paloma Aguirre said the expansion of services responds to the city’s population growth. “In a growing community like Chula Vista, timely access to nearby health care services is increasingly necessary,” she said.

The opening of the new Chula Vista center comes weeks before another Sharp Rees-Stealy facility is set to begin operations in Kearny Mesa on February 16, as part of a broader regional expansion strategy.

Melissa Major, chief executive officer of Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Centers, has noted in recent projects that the system’s growth aims to meet the demand for coordinated, high-quality care. Along those lines, the medical group completed a major expansion of the Sharp Rees-Stealy Otay Ranch Medical Center in April 2025, adding 60,000 square feet and nearly doubling the size of the original complex that opened in 2001.

In that context, Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group President Dr. Michael Martin said the expansion of facilities allows urgent care, specialty services and advanced diagnostic capabilities to be integrated into spaces that are more accessible to the community.

In addition to the formal opening, the new Chula Vista center hosted a community open house on Sunday, January 25, prior to the start of operations, as part of outreach efforts with South Bay residents.
