Construction of the Filipino American Veterans Park is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2026, marking a significant milestone for Chula Vista and the Filipino American community. Once completed, it will be the first park of its kind in the city and one of the few in the United States dedicated specifically to Filipino American veterans.

The Chula Vista City Council unanimously approved the park’s name and master plan in October 2025, following strong support from Filipino residents, veterans, and community advocacy groups. With those approvals in place, the project is now transitioning from planning to construction.

The park will be located in the Cota Vera neighborhood of Otay Ranch, at the intersection of La Media Parkway and Avenida Caprice. Construction is expected to take between 12 months and two years, with a projected opening in 2027 or, at the latest, by summer 2028.

The total cost of the project is estimated at approximately $20 million, with about $7.8 million allocated specifically for construction. The 5.5-acre public space will be among the first in the country designed to recognize the history and contributions of Filipino Americans, particularly those who served in the U.S. armed forces.

Planned amenities include a privately funded memorial and monument honoring Filipino American veterans, basketball and pickleball courts, soccer fields, a children’s playground, and 20 parking spaces.

The central memorial will feature three symbolic walls representing Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The middle wall will display etched maps of the Philippines and the United States, symbolizing the long-standing partnership, shared military history, and enduring ties between the two nations.

With construction set to begin in spring 2026 and funding and planning secured, the Filipino American Veterans Park is expected to become a lasting public tribute and a prominent marker of Filipino American history in Chula Vista and beyond.
