The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will meet in the Super Bowl for the second time in four years.
This past Sunday, the Chiefs punched their ticket to the biggest game of the year for a second-consecutive season after defeating the Baltimore Ravens in Maryland, thanks to a brilliant performance by Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, along with a dominant performance by the Kansas City defense.
Hours later, The San Francisco 49ers hosted the Detroit Lions for the N.F.C. Championship game to claim the remaining spot in the Super Bowl hosted in Las Vegas on February 11.
In the N.F.C Title game, the Lions had significant control over the game through 3-quarters of the night until San Francisco began throwing the ball downfield, and the Lions began having risky play-calling in the second half of the game, which eventually led to a debacle towards the end of the night.
The San Francisco 49ers are already considered three-point favorites over the Chiefs, despite Kansas City being in the big game for yet another year once again in back-to-back years.
Kansas City’s quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, says that despite being considered underdogs all season long, they never felt inside the locker room.
“It’s been a heck of a year, we’ve been underdogs for the last few games but we never feel like underdogs,” Mahomes said after the AFC Championship victory. “We’ve got a lot of guys on this team that know how to win when playoffs come around. I knew we were gonna make it happen and now we’re in the Super Bowl.”
As for the Californian team, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy says he gives credit to the whole organization for establishing a winning environment that makes it easier for him to succeed.
“How can I do my job really well for this team? That’s all I thought of then, and that’s all I thought tonight. I know I have a really good team around me. I have great play-calling. Great coach. Great organization. If I can just do my job well, everything will fall into place how it needs to.”
The big game will be played on Sunday, Feb. 11, at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
