The San Diego International Airport (SAN) celebrated today its first-ever nonstop flight to Montréal, Québec, Canada.
Flights will land at the Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL), operating three times weekly during the peak summer travel season with arrivals to San Diego on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays and departures from San Diego on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
San Diego County Regional Airport Authority President and CEO Kimberly Beckey said Montréal has been our largest and most requested market within Canada.
“The new flights to Montréal are a welcome addition to our international route offerings,” Becker said. “[Montréal] serves as a connection to other Canadian cities and beyond. I would like to congratulate Air Canada on their expansion at SAN.”
Montréal is the most populous city in Québec and the second-most populous city in Canada, according to SAN in a statement. French and English are spoken in the city and 120 ethnocultural communities are represented.
The city boasts more than 50 museums, more than 800 public artworks, a dedicated entertainment district, Quartier des spectacles, featuring more than 80 cultural venues, and is home to the Montréal Canadiens which holds the most Stanley Cups in National Hockey League history.
“San Diego is an extremely popular destination, appealing to Canadians and global customers alike who enjoy the leisure activities, recreation, arts and culture, tourism and hospitality Southern California is renowned for,” said Lisa Pierce – Vice President, Canada & USA Sales for Air Canada. “With customer interest in travel resuming post-pandemic, we are thrilled to launch our services connecting San Diego to our Montréal hub, complementing our flights from San Diego to Vancouver and Toronto.”
