A total of $100,000 from Chula Vista’s American Rescue Plan Act was unanimously approved by city council on Nov.16 for it’s allocation to the Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank this holiday season.

The Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank, along with a network of non-profit partners and volunteers provided emergency food assistance to individuals and families impacted by the pandemic since the beginning in March 2020. Alongside 35 Chula Vista nonprofit partners, the San Diego Food bank will serve as the main point for food distribution.

“We appreciate the collaboration between San Diego Food Bank and our non-profit organizations to provide needed food and resources to our residents,” said Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas Salas. “There still is a great need in our community and this funding is important to assist our local families during the upcoming holidays.”

Additionally, the City Council proclaimed the week of No. 14 through Nov.20 as Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week. Historically, the city has collaborated with social services, health care, faith based, school districts and other partners in providing assistance for communities in need.
