The University of California San Diego is offering a unique experience to students who have a passion for gaming.
This week, reports confirmed that UCSD has now unveiled a new campus facility with an incredible variety of computers for students to game online with people throughout the world.
This comes, as the gaming industry is catching a huge wave in the lives of today's kids and teenagers, a wave that has taken Esports to new heights in the gaming industry.
The gaming center is called Triton Esports Center, and it is located in UCSD's recreation department, over-looking the university's softball campus field.
The center have 26 gaming rooms that include the following:
- State-of-the-art computers
- Wired internet connection
- Gaming chairs
- Keyboard
This gaming center is replacing a former coffee shop on campus, where students can stop by for a fun time of video games between their courses, or before and after they have attended all their classes.
Josh Chou is president of UCSD's Esports, and he says that this is an innovation he didn't think he would ever see during his college lifetime.
"I didn't think that I would see it in my college lifetime, and yet here we are," says Josh Chou, actual president of the school's Esports.
The campus will also look into creating jobs and opportunities. For example, MSI, the tech firm who donated computers to this gaming center, is expected to host a career fair within the next few months.
According to Chris Griebenow. director of the gaming center, they will continue to seek partners to work with and pursue new opportunities in the work force for students that engage in Esports.
"We do also look for partners that are interested in pursuing more opportunities outside of college in the job force, with our schools and with our students," said Chris Griebenow, the gaming center's director.
