At least three men were detained by Chula Vista Police Homicide Detectives and SWAT team early Thursday morning after conducting a warrant search on their San Diego home for suspected involvement in a Chula Vista double homicide in late August.
Authorities conducted the search warrant at approximately 4:30 a.m. at 5883 Vista San Guadalupe. According to OnScene T.V., at least one of the three males is considered a “Person of Interest” and several vehicles were confiscated from the residence.
The Chula Vista Police Department responded to 911 calls of gunfire near Brandywine Avenue and Sequoia Street on Aug. 30, and while officers were responding, an additional caller reported a traffic collision.
Officers responding to the traffic collision discovered a pick-up truck had collided with a parked van in the 1600 Block of Brandywine Avenue and found the driver and their passenger unconscious. According to CVPD Sgt. Anthony Molina, officers attempted life-saving measures until medics arrived and transported the victims to a local hospital with gunshot wounds and other serious injuries.
The victims were later identified as 22-year-old Joseph Arias of Chula Vista and 42-year-old David Bruley of San Diego. The San Diego County Medical Examiner confirmed that both victims died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds to their upper torso.
Witnesses had reported seeing other vehicles fleeing the area at the time of the shooting. Officers located evidence of a recent shooting less than a block away near Valle Lindo Park, in the 500 Block of Sequoia Street.
“Based on the preliminary investigation, it appeared the pick-up truck collided with the parked van while fleeing the scene of the shooting,” Sgt. Molina said.
Investigators are still actively seeking information about the shooting and additional witnesses, even if they wish to remain anonymous. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or submit a tip via P3tips (online or mobile application) http://p3tips.com/409. Witnesses may remain anonymous in utilizing either method.
