The Chula Vista Police Department has partnered with south bay agencies to host another Gun for Gift Cards Event on Saturday to allow the public to rid of unwanted firearms. 

The free event takes place on Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South Bay Courthouse Parking lot at 500 Third Avenue. According to the CVPD, participants will remain anonymous, and no questions will be asked. 

Participants who turn in handguns, rifles, and shotguns will receive a gift card of $100, and $200 for assault weapons. Firearms must be in working order.

All weapons collected will be processed, and any firearms coming back as being involved in a crime will be investigated by the appropriate law enforcement agency, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

If any guns are found to be stolen, the original owners will be contacted. 

All remaining weapons will be destroyed.

Authorities ask participants to place the unloaded firearm in the trunk of their vehicle. A deputy or officers will provide instructions at the site.  

The Chula Vista Police Department is hosting the event in partnership with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, San Diego County District Attorney's Office, San Diego Police Department, Coronado Police Department, Harbor Police Department, National City Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
