The Chula Vista Veterans Service Organization comes together in unity to pay tribute to those who have served in the military.
On Thursday, the Chula Vista Veterans Service Organization held an observance for Veteran’s Day, where Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Us for Warriors Foundation, Anthony Stewart, delivered a statement to address the need to help veteran families seeking assistance. Congresswoman Sarah Jacobs, Mayor Mary Salas, and Councilmembers Jill Galvez and Andrea Cardenas were present at this event. Deputy Mayor John McCann, a veteran himself, was also in attendance.
Addressing the audience Mr. Stewart pointed out “Food Insecurity in San Diego County continues to be a struggle among the military and veteran community. For those living with food insecurity, the uncertainty of having enough or the ability to meet the needs of their families, brings them to organizations like Us4Warriors”, emphasizing that these events, such as forums and tributes, will help the public get involved on the issue. On the morning of this event Councilmember McCann helped the members of the VFW (of which he is a member) place flags along Third Avenue, adding to the Mr. Stewart's point.
“This opportunity to speak with you today reminds us that when in forums such as this and large collaborative efforts in our communities, we find ourselves both thankful to be part of a community force, but also grateful to be among so many leaders in the field of dedicated, community support that we can learn from, lean on, and work with toward a common goal.” He added.
Stewart went on to thank community leaders for advocating for Veteran support, and expressed gratitude for giving him a platform to raise awareness on the matter. “I thank you for this opportunity to contribute to the battle for ending veterans’ hunger. We are extremely grateful for your efforts. We implore you to continue this good fight and ask that you call upon us if we can help.”
