During the 62nd Southwestern College (SWC) Commencement Ceremony at the DeVore Stadium the morning of this past Friday, May 26, cheers and yells from the graduates' families, friends, and loved ones took over.
Numerous students moved in a vibrant march from the north to the south of the stadium to accept their diplomas with great pride as contagious music served as the start signal.
The audience cheered and applauded as the loudspeakers announced the universities where most graduates will continue their studies after transferring.
The graduation ceremony on this particular occasion was scheduled for two shifts, with the morning shift beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the evening shift beginning at 4:00 p.m.
After Latino student, José Pérez delivered a fantastic interpretation of the Pledge of Allegiance, the youthful Adrián Alfredo Llamas inspired patriotism among those in attendance with a skillful and energetic rendition of the National Anthem.
Imani Drew, a graduate, shared a touching testimony about the challenges students, including herself, face. Meanwhile, Dr. Mark Sánchez, the superintendent of SWC, was responsible for congratulating the graduates and wishing them well.
John McCann, the mayor of Chula Vista, was also present but his presence was hardly acknowledged. He secretly used his cellphone to take a few pictures of the occasion.
The graduation ceremony at Southwestern College brought joy to students, parents, academic and administrative staff, and the entire school community. This event was particularly significant as it marked the first time in a while that graduates could celebrate in person due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was an unforgettable moment for
everyone involved.
Congratulations to all the graduates!
