Candidate David Álvarez reported that he would wait in Barrio Logan for the special election results he participates in this Tuesday as a candidate for the State Assembly for District 80.

Álvarez, a former San Diego city councilman, announced that he would vote overnight at a polling place on Newton Avenue.

Meanwhile, the candidate and a team of volunteers from his campaign toured sectors of the district promoting the vote.

Volunteers included San Diego Councilmember Vivián Moreno, National City Mayor Alejandra Sotelo-Solis; civil rights activist Shane Harris and San Ysidro School Board member Rudy Lopez

The candidate was born, raised, and still lives with his family in Barrio Logan.

Álvarez reported that the priorities of his campaign have been to resume the education of children after the pandemic, address the increase in crime in our cities, address the problem of homeless people, and help people with mental health problems.

Álvarez competes with former San Diego councilwoman Georgette Gómez and retired contractor Lincoln Pickad.

The three seek to occupy the position in the Assembly that Lorena González left when she accepted the presidency of the California Federation of Labor.

If a candidate gets more than 50 percent of the vote in the final count on April 14, he will become a district assemblyman for the rest of the year.

If neither candidate has half the votes, the April 5 special election will serve as the primary, and the final election will take place on June 7 for the two candidates with the most votes on Tuesday.
