Fighters participating in this upcoming weekend's DAZN steam held a media workout ahead of their highly-anticipated boxing fights.
On Tuesday, May 10, light heavyweight Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramírez and former WBA Interim Light Heavyweight World Champion Dominic Boesel spoke to the media, just days before facing-off in the ring this weekend in a highly-anticipated boxing fight.
The Mazatlan product expressed he is ready to put on a show in front of a crowd he belives will be majority Mexicans, and mentioned that the Mexican in him was quite sad to see that fellow Mexican fighter, Saul Canelo Alvarez, was not able to come away with the win over the weekend.
“My team and I always watch videos on the rival and we strategize what we're going to do to win. The hard training is over, we just have to lose the extra pounds. There’s going to be a lot of Mexican fans at the Toyota Arena so I’m really excited.” said the former World Champion and Light Heavyweight contender. “I think Bivol was just too much for Canelo. I am a little sad as a Mexican boxing fan. In a way I do have to get revenge since I represent Mexico as well.”
On the other side of the ring, the German, Dominic Boesel, says he is looking forward to Saturday night, where he will be a boxing fighter for the first time in his career within U.S. borders.
“I’ve been in the US before but not as a fighter. I’ve been here for boxing matches. I know the atmosphere and I like it," said the former WBA Interim light heavyweight world champion. "I’m first on the ladder and Zurdo is right under me so it was a fight that had to happen. We’ll see what happens.”
Also in attendance was Golden Boy chairman and CEO, Oscar De La Hoya, and he highlighted that Zurdo's potential was noticable from the first time he laid eyes on him in a boxing ring. Oscar says he can even see Zurdo one day defend a boxing championship title in his hometown.
“I saw a lot of potential in Zurdo and that’s why I signed him once he became a free agent. The vision is to beat Mayweather's record," Oscar said about Zurdo, who currently has 43 boxing victories with 29 knockouts. "There are a lot of fights and opportunities for him. It's just a matter of positioning Zurdo and forcing fighters to fight him. In the future I can see him make a title defense in his hometown." he added.
The fight will take place this Saturday, May 14, at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California.
DAZN will stream the fight live worldwide Saturday night.
