A load of diesel fuel was spilled in the Bonita area when a semi-truck tractor-trailer collided with a wall on Friday.

At around 7:50 am on Christmas Eve Day, a Mexican native male in his 40's lost control of the semi-truck that collided south of Bonita Road on the Interstate 805, which Highway Patrol spokesman Salvador Castro says was caused by the slippery roads from Friday's weather conditions.

"The Driver, a 41-year-old man from Mexico, lost control of the semi-truck in extremely rainy conditions, which caused the vehicle to jackknife and collide with the right shoulder wall," said the spokesman. "The impact caused the fuel tank to rupture and spill approximately 80 to 100 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway and surrounding area," Castro added.

Luckily for the driver, the unidentified man did not receive any injuries from the collision's impact, and no one else was injured by the collision.

The High Patrol spokesman also stated that the right shoulder where the accident took place will remain closed for the following days to come, in order to repair any damages on site.

In addition, to prevent any collisions on California highways, the CHP announced it has begun conducting a "Maximum Enforcement Period" which started at 6 pm on Friday evening and is expected to go until Sunday night.

“During that time, all available officers will be on the road for enhanced enforcement and to assist any motorists or pedestrians in need of help,” CHP officials said in a statement.

According to weather forecasters, Christmas Day will mostly be dry throughout the day. However, cold winds are expected throughout the county at the same time, with just a slight round of rain closer to Saturday afternoon.
