Music is one of the most uniting forms of art, no matter your culture, race, or income, music can unite us. Likewise, music can shape how we feel if we wake up happy and energetic or sad and depressed.
As said in the music website Headphones Addict, it is said that the average person listens to 961 hours and 10 minutes of music per year, which equals roughly 1.3 million songs in our lifetime.
Music has a powerful effect on us, so June 21st is celebrated as World Music Day. Let’s celebrate the impact that music has on our lives.
This day was established one day in 1982 in Paris, France, when Jack Lang, the then Minister of Art and Culture, and Maurice Fleuret, a composer, concluded through a survey that around 9% of the population at the time played a musical instrument.
So, to gather everyone in one place and get as many people to play music for everyone to hear, they created ‘La Fête de la Musique,’ which translates to ‘Music Festival.’
It’s amazing to know that almost everyone in the world, or around 7.1 billion people, listens to music daily. This isn’t surprising because music has the power to energize us, soothe us, move us to dance, and even make us emotional. We enjoy music while exercising, commuting to work, going for a walk, or doing household chores. It’s a part of our lives, just like breathing.
On the Save the Music Association Website, they explain that we listen to music because it increases blood flow to our brains, helps us relax, express ourselves, and gather control over our emotions, and generally improves our well-being.
Music has extreme power over how we feel, think, and carry ourselves through the day.
Although the City of Chula Vista doesn't have any special events planned to celebrate this day, there are still ways you can pay tribute to one of our dearest companions, music. Here are some suggestions.
