The organization of journalists in Baja California invited San Diego County runners to participate in a race this Sunday to raise funds for college for a teenage daughter of slain photojournalist Margarito Martínez.

The race has no registration fee. Instead, the organization of journalists asks that the participants buy a commemorative T-shirt of that same competition for 250 pesos, about $12.50.

At the end of the race, those who buy the shirt also enter a raffle for three tablets.

The well-known photojournalist Margarito Martínez, an expert in police information who worked for US and Mexican media, was assassinated in Tijuana on January 17.

His daughter, who is now in high school and an athlete, was left without resources to continue her studies. She also likes photography.

According to the reporter, the journalists joined in organizing the race "so that the daughter of Margarito Martínez Esquivel continues with her studies because she now has a great journalistic family that will ensure that her education continues," the organization said.

If someone wishes to support without participating in the race, they can find more information on the Facebook and Twitter accounts of the YoSiSoyPeriodista organization.
