Mexico and The United States are heading to Qater at the end of this year for the biggest sports tournament in all of sports.
On Wednesday, both national teams punched their ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after finishing within the top 3 of the CONCACAF hexagonal.
The Mexican national team faced off against El Salvador last night in their last match of the World Cup qualifiers, a game they won by a scoreboard of 2-0 with goals by Uriel Antuna and Raul Jimenez scored before half-time.
Mexico's head coach Tata Martino said after the match that qualifying for the World Cup was something he expected when he took the role of manager of the Mexican National Team, and that now he is focusing on the main objective, which starts as soon as the World Cup group stage draw takes place tomorrow.
"This was something I expected from us and it's something [qualifying for the World Cup] that we needed to do," said Martino after the match. "Now, what's next is preparing for the objective. Tomorrow begins a totally different stage." said Martino.
And as for the Americans, they have made up for what they missed almost 5 years ago in Central-America.
Back in October of 2017, the U.S. lost their last match of the World Cup qualifiers at Trinidad & Tobago, which resulted in the Yanks missing out on the 2018 Russia World Cup.
American soccer player Christian Pulisic expressed his excitement to be able to participate in the World Cup later this year, after suffering that devastating loss in Trinidad & Tobago that left the Americans without a World Cup appearance 4 years ago.
“I mean, (Couva, Trinidad & Tobago) was one of the toughest days of my life, I’ll never forget it,” Christian Pulisic said after Wednesday's match. “Now to be in this position, qualified for a World Cup, we’re all extremely proud. And, I don’t know, this is where I’ve always wanted to be. And right now my emotions are a bit crazy.” he added.
