The opening of the newest Chick-fil-A location in the southbay is one day away from opening.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 13, Ocean View Hills will officially open its new Chick-fil-A location for locals living in south San Diego.
The new location will reportedly create employment opportunities to about 350 workers, both full and part time.
With Wednesday's opening of this new location, it becomes the 17th Chick-fil-A to operate in the greater San Diego area.
Ocean View's Chick-fil-A will be locally owned and will be run by a franchise owner who was raised in the community in which he serves.
That owner is San Diego local Jon Tucker, who has 11 years of experience under his belt, after taking his first Chick-fil-A job at the age of 15.
Shortly after starting in his first job role with the company, Jon instantly felt attached to the restaurant and immediately thought of the possibility of one day operating his own Chick-fil-A location.
Jon met his eventual wife, Sara, while also being employed by Chick-fil-A, where she also was able to gain 7 years of working experience at the company.
At the age of 15, Jon started his first job working for Chick-fil-A. He fell in love with the company and it became a dream to one day operate his very own Chick-fil-A!
Jon Tucker says this is a dream come true for him, given the fact that a large part of his life has been built by his dedication to the company that has allowed him to earn this opportunity in his community.
“Having grown up in San Diego and having so many ties to the community, the opportunity to be the Operator of Chick-fil-A Ocean View Hills is truly a dream come true,” said John Tucker. “Having met my wife through working at Chick-fil-A, Chick-fil-A has always had a special place in my heart, and together we look forward to both serving and helping to transform the community.”
And to honor this great accomplishment for the southbay community, the restaurant has announced that they will donate a large contribution to Ocean View's restaurant location, as well the other new Chick-fil-A location opening up in Vista later this week.
"In honor of the openings, Chick-fil-A, Inc. will donate $25,000 for each restaurant to Feeding America. The combined $50,000 will be distributed partners in the greater San Diego area to aid in the fight against hunger," Chick-fil-A said in a statement. Additionally, Chick-fil-A Ocean View Hills and Chick-fil- A Hwy 78 & Vista Village are each recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the San Diego area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A for a year.
