The White House is taking a big step to preserve Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

On Wednesday, the White House announced that the Biden Administration finalized a rule to expand the DACA policy's existence.

According to the President, the administration's ruling will "reinforce protections" for DACA recipients across the country who came into the U.S. as children.

This DACA policy was initially introduced to the country in the summer of 2012 during Obama's first presidential term. And since then, according to the Department of Homeland Security, the immigration-based program has protected over 800,000 individuals from facing deportation.

This finalized rule will continue to ensure the same protection to hundreds of thousands to remain in the country to study and work in the United States.

Biden released a statement on this huge news for immigrants currently living in the U.S., reminiscing back to the years when he stood side by side with President Obama as the country's 44th administration created this historic protection of immigrants.

"Ten years ago, I stood by President Obama as he announced one of our proudest accomplishments — creating the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, known as DACA," Biden stated. "The program has transformed the lives of hundreds of thousands of young Dreamers by allowing them to live here and contribute their talents to this great country without fear of removal."

President Biden also suggested the Republican Party stop preventing legislation that allows DACA recipients to seek ways to succeed in this country.

"I will do everything within my power to protect Dreamers, but Congressional Republicans should stop blocking a bill that provides a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers," he added. "It is not only the right thing to do, but it is also the smart thing to do for our economy and our communities."
