The San Diego County Medical Examiner identified the elderly male driver and his female passenger of a fatal solo collision in a Chula Vista Freeway overpass bridge wall on Sunday.
According to Chula Vista Police, Luis Perez Barajas, 77, and his wife Avelina Munoz, 70 traveled south on Interstate 805 when they exited the freeway in the HOV lane in Chula Vista at the 400 block of Palomar Street. Witnesses reported the vehicle traveled at high speeds at the end of the exit ramp and continued through the intersection colliding with the cement wall.
According to the Chula Vista Police Department, the couple left their home in Fontana, Ca, and were driving to Tijuana
The Chula Vista Fire Department arrived at the scene and extracted Barajas from the driver's seat. According to the medical examiner, an electrocardiogram was applied and death was confirmed without further medical intervention. Munoz was confirmed deceased shortly after authorities arrived at the scene without medical intervention.
