The San Diego Humane Society rescued a dog found covered in cactus spines walking along the U.S.-Mexico Border, the non-profit organization announced in a social media post.
Representatives from the San Diego Humane Society announced on Twitter Friday morning that a Boxer pup was found walking along the US-Mexico Border covered in cactus spines. A Humane Officer was able to lure the pup, named Rico, with cat food and transport him to receive care.
The Humane Society’s medical team removed the cactus spines from the pup’s brown fur coat and skin. Representatives shared images of Rico’s severely prickled paws and body and the pieces of cactus the medical team was able to remove.

After receiving treatment and care, Rico was passed on to MustLuvBoxers Rescue, a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming unwanted or abandoned Boxers throughout the Pacific Northwest.
