It was a perfect Saturday for San Diego sports.
The Padres won, San Diego Wave won, and San Diego Loyal won.
The Loyal went into the great state of Texas to secure a big victory against El Paso Locomotive at the Southwest University Park with a 3-1 scoreboard.
It was Kyle Vassell, Thomas Amang and Evan Conway who put themselves on the scoresheet for San Diego.
The goals from Vassell and Amang came in the first half of the match, and Conway's goal came in the second half to wrap up the crucial win on the road. With this victory, San Diego moves up the latter on the Western Conference standings, placing themselves now in a stronger second position with 52 points, just five points behind the top seed San Antonio FC.
San Diego Loyal SC head coach Landon Donovan says that the only thing that could've been better was the number of goals they put up on the scoreboard.
"Our only fault was not scoring more goals or scoring much earlier, but we created tons of chances," said Donovan.
However, Donovan was overall pleased the the team's performance, not just because they could have scored many more goals, but because the other midfield and defensive players also played their part successfully.
"Lots of goals come when you create tons of chances," Landon Donovan said. "Sometimes you have a game where you get five chances where you score three goals, but we created 12 or 15 chances to really big chances to score tonight, and when you create that high level of chances, you're going to score goals. Ultimately our guys made plays all over the field, especially in front of goal."
San Diego Loyal will be returning to Torero Stadium this week to host the Oakland Roots SC on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
