SDSU is being crowned as the 'Diversity Champion' for its inclusiveness across campus.
INSIGHT Into Diversity, which is a website and magazine that covers higher education, selected San Diego State as the top of the list for its commitment to diversity through academic programs.
This top ranking is the sixth time SDSU has gained this title, listed along with 16 other colleges and universities to be recognized for this label.
J. Luke Wood, vice president of student affairs and campus diversity and chief diversity officer, spoke on behalf of the university regarding this incredible achievement.
“SDSU is proud to be recognized for our success in creating a diverse and inclusive environment,” said J. Luke Wood. “This is the result of a concerted effort that reaches every college, school and department and is embodied in our strategic plan, which specifically commits us to ‘equity and inclusion in everything we do,’ including research and community engagement.”
The campus has also been recently recognized once again for being ‘Best of the Best’ for LGBTQ university students.
Jessica Nare, assistant vice president for Community & Belonging in the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity, says that the school takes pride in being a campus that provides a safe space for academic students that celebrate the LGBTQ community.
“We know that students are more successful academically, when they feel like they belong on campus,” said Jessica Nare. “SDSU aims to foster a campus culture that values and celebrates queer and trans students.
“Our Pride Center, the LGBT Studies Department, the Pride ERG, and the LGBTQ Research Consortium at SDSU are just a few of the departments that provide leadership, advocacy, and support for LGBTQIA students,” Nare added. “We are incredibly proud of this recognition and will continue to refine policies and programs that support the personal, professional, and academic success of LGBTQIA students," Nare added.
