The Spring 2023 Student Art exhibition at the Southwestern College Art Gallery featured the creative works of numerous Southwestern College students.
The show features a diverse range of techniques and disciplines, such as drawing, digital media, painting, photography, and sculpture, with various themes. The selection process of proposals has resulted in a multidisciplinary exhibition that allows viewers to appreciate the different art forms.
Students were encouraged to continue developing their creative skills by receiving rewards for their best work, which also inspired others to take part in future editions. This show, according to information from the SWC, was made possible in part by a grant from the Southwestern College Foundation and award money from the Southwestern ASO.
The 2,135 square foot gallery space, which was finished in 1969, was modeled after the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City and has 11-foot walls, in-floor outlets, and a suspended modular grid ceiling with moveable walls and inset rails for hanging art pieces.
Dark (1968), the first conceptual sculpture by Bruce Nauman and a standout of Southwestern's College permanent art collection, is on display in the gallery's outdoor courtyard. Public access to all exhibitions and activities is free.
