Spirit Airlines announced it will launch non-stop services between San Diego in Oakland, the first new route since 2017.

“We appreciate Spirit Airlines growing their service at SAN and providing another option for San Diegans to get to the Bay Area,” said Kimberly Becker, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority President, and CEO.

Southwest Airlines was the only other air carrier offering non-stop services between San Diego and Oakland.

According to San Diego Spokeswoman Sabrina LoPiccolo, the flights carried out by Spirit Airlines between San Diego and Oakland will be carried out once daily.

Spirit Airlines also offers year-round nonstop service from SAN to Las Vegas via Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) and summer seasonal service to Dallas/Fort Worth via Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Houston via George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Chicago via Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), and Detroit via Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW).

Southwest operated as many as 12 daily roundtrips between the two cities and presently is offering nine daily roundtrips, according to LoPiccolo. The number of round trips are expected to return to 12 starting in the summer.
