The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced that Heather Gutierrez, an inmate who escaped a community reentry program Wednesday was apprehended without incident.
Gutierrez left the Community Transitional Reentry Program (CCTRP) on Wednesday night without authorization around 7:20 p.m, according to state correctional officials.
The young woman, whose age was not released, was arrested then taken back into custody on Thursday. She was transported to the California Institution for Women in Chino and will be ineligible for the CCTRP program for at least 10 years.
The district attorney was assigned to her case for consideration of escape charges.
Gutierrez was admitted from San Bernardino County in September 2021 and sentenced to two years for second-degree robbery. She had been allowed to stay at the CCTRP since February 2022.
She was scheduled to be released in July.
Earlier this month, another inmate walked out from a community transitional reentry program without authorization. State corrections authorities reported 28-year-old Kajuan Walker missing on April 14 from the Male Community Reentry Program facility in Barrio Logan. Walker was apprehended without incident days later.
State correctional officials noted that since 1977, 99 percent of inmates to leave adult institutions, camps or community programs have been apprehended.
