The University of California, San Diego, and the San Diego Natural History Museum are coming together to display an art exhibit at Balboa Park.

Earlier today, August 11, the UCSD Library announced its local alliance with the San Diego Natural History Museum to display this project that will be featured at the famous Balboa Park and also on UCSD campus from August 12 to October 24, 2022.

This exhibit displays winning art images from the Library’s 2022 Art of Science contest, a contest of images that emerge during scientific research at UCSD and other locations.

The Art of Science at UCSD kicks off a contest every calendar year. They are open to any image submissions from UCSD students and general researchers who would like to share important details from particular research.

This winning process occurs through a panel of judges gathered by UCSD facility, campus, and community administrators. The panel selects the winners and results in publicly displaying these incredible images.

Audrey Geisel University Librarian Erik Mitchell says they are grateful for this agreement between the University and the Natural History Museum to give a well-deserved spotlight to the winners of this annual contest.

“We are excited to embark on this new community partnership with the San Diego Natural History Museum and are grateful for their willingness to highlight the Art of Science contest and this year’s winners,” said Librarian Erik Mitchell. “The contest was originally created to raise awareness of the Library’s research data curation services, which are available free of charge to UC San Diego affiliates, and has evolved into a program that serves multiple audiences and scientific disciplines. I’m glad this program is in place; it gives us the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the brilliance behind the research conducted in the university’s labs.”

The display will run through October 24 of this year.
